Bassendean Memorial Library – Children’s activities

Young children can join Rhyme Time for babies up to 18 months or Story Time for ages 2–4 during school terms. Both are drop-in sessions. Monthly LEGO challenges give children aged 6–12 a chance to build and create, although places are limited.

Bassendean PS Playgroup

Children aged 0–5 can play and socialise while parents and carers meet other local families. This community-run group meets in the Bassendean Primary School library on Fridays during school term, from 9am to 10.30am. Families can book a free trial; the listed fee is $10 per term plus Playgroup WA membership.

Sandy Beach Playground

For outdoor family time, this Bassendean playground has footpath access, bike rails, water fountains and a toilet block with unisex toilets. These practical facilities can make it easier to plan a play stop, walk or bike outing with children.

Wind in the Willows Early Childhood Education

The Town of Bassendean operates early childhood education and care across two locations. Its Bassendean centre serves children aged 0–3, while the Ashfield centre serves ages 3–5. Families can join the waitlist for the relevant centre. The Town states that both centres will continue operating until at least July 2027.

Swans Youth Hub

Swan Districts Football Club runs the hub at Steel Blue Oval in Bassendean. It offers programs and activities where young people can spend time with Swans mentors. Contact the club before attending to confirm which activities are currently running and who can participate.

headspace Midland

Located nearby in Midland, headspace provides free, confidential support, information and health advice for young people aged 12–25, as well as some support for families. Appointments can be arranged by phone, email or by dropping in, and no mental health care plan is required for referral. headspace Midland is not a crisis service.

Ngala Parenting Line

Parents and carers across Western Australia can seek confidential, non-judgemental phone support about children and young people aged 0–18. Qualified child health nurses, midwives and other professionals staff the line daily from 8am to 8pm.
